December has arrived, marking the start of Shiwasu.

The most popular theories for the origin of the word Shiwasu are that it refers to the priests (Shi) being so busy running around for end-of-year Buddhist services, or that it is a derivation of “Toshihatsu,” meaning “the end of the year.”

Although the “Shi” refers to priests, nowadays we are also extremely busy with year-end activities like Bōnenkai (year-end parties), major cleaning, and preparations for the New Year.

Please note that there will be school closures during the New Year period, so kindly confirm the dates before attending.
